At TREND an Illustrator/Graphic Designer blends illustration and design disciplines to create concepts, detailed layouts and draw eye-catching, fun and child-friendly visual solutions for use in TREND products, packaging, and promotion initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide illustration and design solutions for a wide range of projects, including:

Character development; Products; Packaging
Catalogs; Sales/marketing support material;
Merchandising displays; Signage; E-mail promotions
Trade show exhibits; Web pages; Social Media

• Create concepts, illustrations, and detailed layouts incorporating drawings, photography, characters, borders, font treatments, and other design elements to meet visual needs that:
– Are engaging and eye-catching
– Are highly appealing to children
– Provide a unique, fresh design approach
– Help explain and visualize a written concept or idea
– Enhance a topic or theme and add visual interest
– Are consistent with TREND design styling

• Recommend style, technique, and medium to best meet project needs
• Create rough sketches (thumbnails or storyboards) in traditional or digital formats based on verbal concepts as part of developing design solutions
• Select font styles; possess ability to create custom hand-lettering
• Actively collaborate with creative team colleagues in constructive exchanges that deliver in best-in-class results

Other duties as assigned.
Specific Skills
• Proven ability in illustration and graphic design, preferably experience in creating children’s educational products
• Dynamic portfolio of illustrations appealing to children, as well as graphic design projects including packaging, merchandising, ads, and catalogs
• Advanced layout and design skills including contemporary animation, character development, illustration style, color, and color balance.
• Expert-level proficiency in the Adobe Creative Suite 4 or higher: Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign
• Bachelor’s degree preferred
• Knowledge of and experience in printing processes
• Excellent organization/prioritization skills for working effectively with tight deadlines; flexibility to work extended hours when needed
• Excellent written/verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting and interacting with CEO and executive level management

Position Summary:
The Production Artist will work closely with the creative team. This position will create, produce and send out production artwork. Additionally, this role will work closely with print production vendors, maintain artwork file archives and oversee outside printing projects. The ideal candidate will have a good technological understanding of design software; in addition to, an eye for design and attention to detail.

Essential Responsibilities:
• Development and production of packaging, product collateral, catalogs, merchandising and in-store signage which delivers against each brand strategy and helps inform, educate and excite the consumer
• Prepare, organize, track and send out production artwork to suppliers

• Develop print collateral such as sell sheets, catalogs and POP materials
• Solicit competitive bids for printing and execute printing projects with outside suppliers
• Maintain artwork file archives
• Coordinate graphic dept. software needs w/ IT dept.
• Execute other graphic projects as assigned such as packaging, forms, etc.
• Maintain up-to-date design software skills
• Meet project deadlines
• Organize and maintain design files
• Produce support material for sales presentations, sales meetings, tradeshows, etc.
• Coordinate photography and perform associated photo cleaning and touch-up
• Prepare artwork to send out to print
• Develop marketing print collateral such as ads, logos, catalogs and POP materials
• Follow internal controls and company policies as set by Pacific Cycle and job function.
• Contributes to the success of Pacific Cycle Inc by leading or assisting with other projects and tasks as assigned
Specific Skills
Basic Qualifications:
• Graphic Art or other Art education background required, to include a Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Degree.
• Experience with all phases of production, layout and design
• Knowledge of printing industry, including output and pre-press preparation
• Familiarity with MacIntosh computer systems
• Experience with Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and/or other related programs required
• Knowledge of MS Office applications required

Experience Requirements:
• Must be highly organized and have attention to detail
• Must be able to work efficiently on multiple projects to meet tight deadlines
• Ability to work in a team environment required.
• Excellent written & verbal communication skills required
